    The Double Cleanse Method Explained

What Is Double Cleansing & What Are The Benefits?

A secret skin care strategy for healthy, youthful-looking skin is double cleansing.

This unique washing method accounts for two important steps with cleansers of different formulas to create the desired effect. The first oil-based cleanser removes impurities like makeup, sunscreen, excess sebum and pollution. Oil cleansers attract and draw out oil from elements that build up on the surface of your skin.

The second water-based cleanser removes any remaining residue by giving your skin a thorough cleanse. It deals with impurities by breaking down their oil components. Forego cleansing a little too often and you run the risk of clogged pores, irritation, dryness and breakouts. This prevents your skin from being able to renew itself overnight or properly absorb skin care products.

Besides recommending a combination of oil and water-based cleansers, we also suggest avoiding cleansers that have harsh sulfates that strip away your natural skin barrier, and staying away from irritating ingredients like artificial fragrance or alcohol.

    How To Double Cleanse

Begin with an oil based cleanser. Gently, and in a circular motion, massage the oil into your face and neck to work away impurities. Rinse away with a warm water washcloth.

Repeat the cleansing while your face is still damp, but this time, opt for a water based cleanser. This second cleansing sweeps away remaining impurities and penetrates pores to unclog them. This preempts acne and enlarged pores. It also leaves your skin dewy, soft and fresh. Personally, I love how INCREDIBLE it makes my skin look and feel. I look forward to cleansing when before it was such a chore for me.

When & How Often Should You Double Cleanse?

How frequently you double cleanse depends on your skin — many people prefer to cleanse once a day, while others prefer to cleanse both during their morning and night time routine. As a general rule, it’s more common to double cleanse at night. After all, the skin is likely to be covered in sunscreen, makeup and the accumulation of environmental stressors throughout the day.

How often you double cleanse also depends on your skin type and lifestyle. For example, if you have oily skin, breakout-prone skin, or you wear heavy makeup, double cleansing minimizes potential congestion likely to build up. Many use this cleansing routine in the mornings, too, as sebum can be produced while you sleep. If you’re short on time or absolutely not interested in a double cleanse method, do the oil based cleansing at night and a quick wash in the morning with the water based cleanser. Bottom line: Pick whatever suits your lifestyle, and then try to be consistent with it for best results.

Did you know you can cleanse your face with our Flawless Facial Oil? Cleansing with oil can be a wonderful addition to your skin care routine, whether used alone or as part of a double cleanse.

It’s another option to remove makeup, surface debris, and excess oil. What makes oil cleansing different is how it works compared to traditional water-soluble cleansers that have a cream, gel, or foaming texture. Traditional cleansers cleanse primarily with surfactants, ingredients that interact with oil, makeup, and surface debris on skin in a manner that allows them to be rinsed with water.

Oils don’t just moisturize skin, they also work as solvents, a group of ingredients that can dissolve similar substances (remember the rule, “like dissolves like” from chemistry class?). Oils are a special type of solvent because they’re lipophilic, meaning they’re naturally attracted to other oils, including the sebum our skin produces and the oil-like ingredients in makeup. This is what allows the oils in a cleansing oil to quickly dissolve makeup and excess oil while softening skin at the same time.

The main benefits of cleansing with oil:

Provides a quick and easy removal of all types of makeup and sunscreens.

The gentlest way to cleanse your skin thoroughly.

It doesn't disrupt the natural pH level of your skin and never leaves your skin feeling tight and dry. Instead, your skin feels clean and fresh!

Leave skin feeling supple and smooth.

Is compatible with any other type of cleanser should you choose to double cleanse

    How to cleanse with oil:

It’s very much like using a regular cleanser: Apply a quarter size amount into palm of hand, and gently massage onto dry or damp skin. Let sit for a minute or two. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and washcloth. Pat skin dry with a soft, clean towel.

Cleansing with oil is my new favorite way to thoroughly cleanse my face and I adore how fresh my face feels after with NO greasy residue! 😄

Try it and let me know what you think!
